SASSA war veterans grants are available to South African citizens who fought in the Second World War (1939 – 1945) or the Korean War (1950 – 1953).
This grant is available to people 60 years or older who are not receiving any other social assistance. Applicants are evaluated based on their income, assets, and other financial factors to determine their eligibility for the grant.
What exactly is the SASSA War Veterans Grant for 2024?
If SASSA determines that you must declare sufficient income during the application process, your grant may be reviewed. Reviewing your situation ensures that you still meet the grant’s means test criteria and that your circumstances still need to improve. You are also being checked to make sure you are still alive. Your application should be updated whenever circumstances change to simplify the review process.
If SASSA believes you are still alive after three months of review, it will send you a written notice. The written notification will provide details about the review, date, and location.
SASSA requires individuals receiving grants from banks, institutions, or agents to submit a life certificate annually. In the case of a bedridden individual, SASSA officials will visit your home for an in-home review. A compliance receipt will be issued to you after your review.
Procedure to Apply for the War Veterans Grant
SASSA war veterans grants can be applied for by filling out an application form at your nearest SASSA office branch and submitting it to them. Alternatively, you can apply online through the SASSA services website by reading the instructions on how to apply online.
The SASSA office is ideal for those who are too old, sick, or disabled to visit alone. If they cannot make it, a friend or a family member can apply on their behalf. Please ask your representative to take a letter from you along with a letter from your doctor explaining why you cannot visit the SASSA office on your own.
A SASSA application form can be obtained at SASSA offices and must be completed in the presence of a SASSA officer to be processed. If you cannot fill out the application form on your own, the officer will assist you in completing it if you cannot do so on your own. As part of the grant application process, the officer will also conduct your interview (or have your appointed person conduct the interview) and inform you whether you are eligible for the grant.
After you complete the application and interview, the SASSA officer who assisted in the application process will provide you with a stamped receipt with his or her name and the application’s reference number. The receipt you receive as proof of your application is essential, even if you need to be qualified.
