SRD is the South African Social Security Agency’s (SASSA) social relief grant for distressed people. It provides temporary financial support to South Africans who urgently need it due to their economic situation.
SRD grants were initially launched in May 2020 to respond to the COVID-19 Pandemic. They have now been extended until 31 March 2025. The SRD grant was created to help people with income who are not eligible to receive other social benefits, like unemployment or social grants.
SASSA Grant Eligibility criteria
Before applying for a grant, make sure you meet the criteria.
- Only South African residents, refugees, asylum seekers, or holders of a South Africa special permit can apply for this grant.
- You should be aged between 18 and 60.
- South Africa is the only country that will accept you.
- Why you should not be working
- No official government program should provide you with financial assistance.
- You should not be able to cover your basic needs.
- You shouldn’t be receiving stipends through NSFAS.
- If you do not qualify for payment, SASSA SRD grants are only available.
- You must also meet all the requirements for the Means Test.
SASSA SRD Grant Eligibility
SASSA SRD requires that certain documents and requirements be included with your application. All the documents must be with you to ensure your application is accepted quickly.
- It is essential to have your 13-digit South African barcoded ID number on you.
- The official will need proof of your application and evidence that an emergency has occurred.
- You must prove you are not receiving financial or other support from another source.
- If you have been married or divorced, then you must tell them.
- It is also necessary to show proof of your disability. Other conditions must be met if you still need an ID when applying.
- You must provide an affidavit or sworn declaration and proof of your application for a birth certificate or identity card.
- The temporary identification documents must be submitted.
- If you’ve ever attended school, you must provide your school certificate and any health clinic cards you may have.
What is the R350 Grant, and how do I apply for it?
